NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NOOOOOO! You dont want to try to mod this at all. Remove out the old CRT tube system and sell it to someone who has an actual Arcade unit. THen Use one of them 25 IN color console TV.s Make sure the picture tube is almost shot. Looks really pixellated and old, faded. That would be cool. THen are you gonna mod the Handheld for wiring up real buttons and sticks.
Thant would be really cool. I have a couple consoles I could probably do that with.
There was a guy down here in Florida that made dozens of these things and took them to auctions. Jakks pacific rigged up to a regular TV jammed into an arcade cabinet. People bid on it thinking it was like the other multicades that were going for $400-$800 and then got a nice suprise when they got it home (or in many cases, had a tech explain the situation to them when it broke). He made good money until he ran out of suckers and the prices of the real multicades dropped way down. It's not really a good setup and they are kinda nasty.
Honestly I wouldn't do it. If you are going to take the time to rig one up to an actual arcade monitor you might as well just get a xx-in-1 board (they are $60 now) or MAME it. I'll probably just get a board. Don't really feel like changing the monitor out. I was actually thinking I might put a ninja turtles game in there since the cabinet is nearly identical. Haven't found any cabinet art though.

If it's a 4-player Konami cabinet then yeah, you definitely don't want to Jakks pacific that as it would look just completely goofy with one joystick in the middle of that huge control panel. It would however, make a perfect MAME cabinet. Ninja Turtles is actually a pretty expensive board but fun, especially if you have people over.

I found a Turtles Board for $150. Still debaiting.
Had i actually went with the Jakks idea, i would've done a hack to make the player one stick do all the work. I don't have any plans of removing everything from the deck and having only one in the middle. I simply considered it at first since the games are identical to the original.
Problem is, since then, i've aquired one of the actual arcade cabs. Of a game that is in one of the sticks. Mame.i dont know. Been there done that.

Most of the xx-in-1s have pretty shoddy emulation. If you are overly familiar with the game you will notice differences.
